Rare Visitor: USAF WC-135R Constant Phoenix Serial 64-14831 Nuclear Sniffer at Curaçao
Curaçao received a rare and unusual visitor this weekend; a United States Air Force WC-135R Constant Phoenix, widely known as the “nuke sniffer”.
The aircraft, serial 64-14831 from the 45th Reconnaissance squadron at Offutt AFB in Nebraska, was preceded last week by two C-17As carrying personnel and equipment. Given that the jet’s mission is to sample the upper atmosphere for evidence of nuclear detonations, I can’t even begin to speculate as to the reason why it is here on the island.
