A secret smirk!

“SMIRK THREE-NINER AT THE FINAL APPROACH FIX GEAR DOWN”

That was the first confirmation I had that my target was finally arriving. I had waited several hours already, based on information it was going to arrive at 3pm. Then I was informed that it would be arriving just after 5pm. The aircraft was could not be tracked on any of the usual apps (I tried FR24, Radarbox, and ADSB Exchange) so I could not confirm anything. My sources were always reliable, but with unusual aircraft, changes (i.e. cancelations) happen.

Shortly after that first radio call with Hato tower, the aircraft landing lights came into view. A bit of patience had paid off.

Not much is officially known about this aircraft. The complete lack of national markings, unit identifiers, registration/serial number sent me to the internet in search of an identification. This aircraft is a USAF C-40C, most likely serial 21-0024, that is surrounded by mystery. I could not stay for its departure so I do not know where it was off to next.
