“Nobody Kicks Ass Without Tanker Gas”
Mentioned in the previous post, 3 United States Air Force KC-135 Stratotankers came to Curaçao last week. All 3 were supporting security measures around US president Joe Biden’s trip to Peru for the APEC summit.
First to arrive was KC-135R serial 59-1506, assigned to the Iowa Air National Guard (ANG) 135th Air Refueling Wing (ARW) and based at Sioux City Air National Guard Base. The Stratotanker touched down with a solid wall of rain approaching rapidly and, by the it had reached the end of the runway, both the jet and myself were completely soaked.
Later that same day, KC-135T serial 58-0084 (Pennsylvania ANG 171st ARW based at Pittsburg Air Reserve Station) arrived, quickly followed by KC-135R serial 58-0027 ( Utah ANG 151st Wing based at Wright Air national Guard Base, Salt Lake City). After both aircraft had landed, the earlier cycle repeated itself and I got hit by another solid wall of rain while they were taxiing.
Weather-sealed camera gear is worth it, even here on sunshine island.
