Rare Visitor: RCAF CC-330 Husky Serial 330002 Early Career Visit to Curaçao
Royal Canadian Air Force Airbus CC-330 Husky serial 330002 made an early career visit to Curaçao on March 14th 2024, just months after entering service with 437 Transport Squadron at 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario.
Serial 330002 is the first CC-330 Husky to enter RCAF service, having arrived in Canada on August 31st 2023. The aircraft is one of five former Airbus A330-200 airliners acquired second-hand through the International AirFinance Corporation as part of Canada's Strategic Tanker Transport Capability program, in this case a former Kuwait Airways aircraft. In its current configuration it retains a commercial interior and is used primarily for strategic passenger transport and government VIP missions, with full tanker conversion capability to follow on the new-build aircraft scheduled for delivery from 2027 onward.
The CC-330 Husky name carries a deliberate connection to 437 Squadron's history. The Husky dog has served as the squadron's mascot since 1944 and features prominently on its crest, while "Husky" has long been the squadron's callsign on local training flights. The hardy, dependable nature of the breed was cited by Canada's Department of National Defence as reflecting the qualities the aircraft is expected to bring to the RCAF — endurance, dependability and toughness across a fleet of nine aircraft that will ultimately replace the aging CC-150 Polaris in both transport and air-to-air refuelling roles.
The Curaçao visit in March 2024 represented one of the type's earliest Caribbean deployments, captured here during what proved to be challenging light conditions.
