It’s that time of year !

The “Hurricane Hunters” of the US Air Force’s 403 Wing/53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron paid Curaçao a visit May 29th-30th. The aircraft (WC-130J serial 99-5309) left its Keesler AFB (BIX/KBIX) home on May 27th, with an overnight stop in St-Thomas (STT/TIST). Supported by the locally-based 429th Expeditionary Operations Squadron, the short deployment included a tour and briefing for stakeholders in Curaçao, but no operational flights were carried out.

During the hurricane season, St-Croix (STX) is the main deployed operating base for the WC-130J squadron, but Curaçao hosts the specialized unit when STX itself is in the path of storms.
