Aviation Photography at Sint-Maarten TNCM: Delta Spirit of Freedom 757, Air Caraïbes A350 and Rare Visitors

Sint-Maarten's Princess Juliana Airport TNCM needs little introduction to aviation enthusiasts. The approach over Maho Beach, with aircraft passing just metres above the heads of beachgoers, is one of the most photographed in the world. A November 2022 visit during a vacation yielded a small but varied collection of aircraft despite limited spotting time.

The highlight was Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-232 N694DL wearing the Spirit of Freedom special markings — a decal near the nose featuring the emblems of the five US armed service branches, distinguishing it from the standard Delta fleet. Air Caraïbes Airbus A350-941 F-HTRE arrived from Paris-Orly, as the A350 service to Sint-Maarten operates into TNCM rather than the island's other airport, Grand Case TFFG, which handles the shorter regional sectors. The ramp also produced Flamenco Cargo Shorts 360-300 N918GD, a type rarely seen outside niche island cargo operations, and private Boeing 727-21 VP-BAP, one of the few remaining examples of the type in private hands.
