My obsession with Alaska!

My JetBlue post got me thinking about other specials.

I chased many of Alaska Airlines’ special liveries when I lived in the Vancouver area. It was tough; there’s quite a few!

Their 737 flight from Seattle International Airport (SEA) to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) was a short one, about 30 minutes. That created a challenge for me. I lived 25-45 minutes away from YVR, depending on the traffic. More often than not, I had to jump in my car and rush there without knowing which airplane would actually depart SEA. As many of you know, FlightRadar24’s information can be out of date, and airlines frequently make last-minute (frustrating) changes!

Another challenge was that it could take hours to photograph one plane if you threw in bad weather & air traffic control delays. I hung in there on many occasions and succeeded in capturing the liveries featured below (from left to right):

  • N318AS “Spirit of Disneyland II”

  • N280AK “Kevin Durant”

  • N493AS “More To Love”

  • N265AK “Honoring Those Who Serve”

  • N559AS “Salmon-Thirty-Salmon II”

  • N512AS “Boeing House Colors”

  • N569AS “Starship 75”

  • N607AS “Portland Timbers”

  • N531AS “ Captain Marvel”

My wishlist of the remaining specials include:

  • N560AS “Spirit Of The Islands”

  • N570AS “Honoring Those Who Serve” 737-800

  • N587AS “ Sub Pop”

  • N248AK “Celebration Of Boeing” (I photographed this on the ramp in Seattle but it was not a good photo due to ramp construction)

  • N537AS “Friendship And Beyond At Disneyland”

  • N589AS “Toy Story 4”

  • N651QX “Honoring Those Who Serve” Embraer 175

Alaska Airlines now has a brand-new special livery 737, registered as N492AS, dedicated to the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). It will be difficult for me to catch - there is no service to Curacao (and we are still in lockdown). You will notice that I did not say “impossible”. You have to be relentless!
