Luxembourg Armed Forces Airbus A400M CT-01 first Visit to TNCC for Venezuela Releif Operation

The international assistance to Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes late last month continues to evolve.

Luxembourg and Belgium launched a joint mission to the South American country, sending several experts and specialized communications equipment on June 26th and 27th. In an effort to provide more help to the people of Venezuela, additional resources were dispatched on Tuesday June 30th using Airbus A400M serial CT-01. Overnighting at Terceira Lajes Airport, Azores (TER/LPLA), CT-01 landed in Curaçao on July 1st at 1040am,, using the callsign Belgian Air Force 656.

On board CT-01 are two experts from Luxembourg’s Intervention Group for Humanitarian Operations of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), as well as essential supplies and emergency equipment provided by both Luxembourg and Belgium.

Delivered to the Luxembourg Armed forces in 2020, CT-01 is part of the Belgium-Luxembourg Binational Air Transport Unit, based at Melsbroek Airbase in Belgium. The unit is composed of crews from both countries with Belgium contributing another seven A400M.

Possessing a very small military, Luxembourg is also a participating nation in NATO’s Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF), Airborne Early Warning & Control Force (AEW&CF) and Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) program.

Update: The aircraft performed a mission to Caracas (CCS/SVMI) on the morning of July 2nd and returned to TNCC at Noon. It departed back to Europe on July 3rd, departing TNCC at 923am.
