GlobalX Retro Airbus A320 N837VA at Curaçao TNCC
GlobalX’s retro-liveried Airbus A320 N837VA has made several appearances at Curaçao Hato International Airport (CUR/TNCC) while operating charter services on behalf of Venezuelan carrier Laser Airlines. Although not a frequent visitor, the aircraft’s distinctive throwback scheme ensures it attracts attention whenever it operates the Miami–Curaçao rotation.
These flights form part of Laser’s international services linking Miami (MIA/KMIA) with the southern Caribbean, utilizing GlobalX’s Airbus A320 fleet to support operations. Even without the rarity factor, the livery itself makes the aircraft a worthwhile subject whenever the opportunity arises.
Interestingly, the retro design is somewhat unusual for GlobalX. As an airline that has been in existence for less than a decade, it does not have a historic paint scheme of its own to revisit. The livery carried by N837VA is therefore better described as retro-inspired rather than a true heritage scheme, drawing on classic airline styling cues rather than replicating a previous GlobalX design. Regardless, it stands out nicely among the more contemporary finishes typically seen on the ramp.
On this occasion, N837VA was photographed during daylight operations at TNCC on February 9th and 11th, allowing for clear views of the vintage-style paintwork during its turnaround in Curaçao.
Adding a bit more context to these flights, Laser Airlines has recently been reported to have revived its bid to resume services to the United States. If approved, this would mark a notable development for the Venezuelan carrier, which has faced long-standing restrictions on U.S. operations.
For now, charter arrangements such as the Miami–Curaçao flights operated by GlobalX continue to play an important role in maintaining the airline’s international presence. It will be interesting to see how these partnerships evolve should Laser eventually regain the ability to operate U.S. routes under its own authority.
